Adopt A Family Christmas

One tradition in our Parma church is the annual Christmas gift program for needy families. Our project leaders Bill and Laurie Goetz contact one of the local welfare organizations to get some insight on families that are in need of a better Christmas.

Most often, these are single parent households with multiple children. We get the ages, sizes and wishes of the families. Bill and Laurie turn their wishes into tags on a small Christmas tree in the vestibule of the church. (shown here) Then the members are invited to takes a gift tag home and buy the gift to fulfill the wish of the family member.

Along with toys and needed clothes, cash and gift cards are accepted. Depending on the agency, the gifts may be delivered to the family or to the agency to maintain fairness. For Christmas 2019 there was $1000 in cash and gift cards raised and 58 presents to answer requests. All the packages were wrapped and labeled for delivery.

We are thankful our members are so generous for these families whose may not have a lot to cheer about at Christmas time.
